Seraphina
Senior Year Student
Loyola Marymount University
I am a senior at Loyola Marymount University, majoring in Asian and Pacific Studies with a minor in Business Administration. I am Chinese, born in Hong Kong, but moved to America with my family when I was seven years old. Doing so allowed me to experience two very different cultures. My parents are still very traditionally Chinese, but I also grew up surrounded with American culture. I had always been interested in Japanese popular culture, and although I had taken a trip to Japan with my family when I was young, I had always thought of going back to explore on my own. I studied abroad in Osaka, Japan the spring semester of my junior year. It was definitely one of the best experiences of my life, and it was very interesting to compare the Japanese culture with my other cultural experiences. It was interesting to see how similar it is with Chinese culture, and how different it is from American culture. This experience strengthened my love for Japan and its culture, and has motivated me to go back, be it for school or work.
