I. GENERAL STUDY ABROAD
Fulbright Program
The largest U.S. international exchange program offering students and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide. Awards are applicable for all fields of study in more than 140 countries.
If you have a campus advisor you will apply as an “enrolled applicant”; if you do not have a campus advisor or are not currently enrolled in a U.S. institution of higher learning you may apply as an “at-large applicant”. Find out if your school has an advisor at http://us.fulbrightonline.org/program_universities_us.html . You will apply through this advisor and have to adhere to your campus’ particular deadline, which will be earlier than the IEE deadline.
Global Studies Foundation Student Grant
Designed to support foreign language training and other academic studies abroad, this grant provides supplemental funds for American students who are already studying abroad under the auspices of an official study abroad program conducted by an accredited academic institution. The foundation is particularly interested in funding the study of strategically significant countries and languages.
Grant recipients are expected to share this experience with others upon his or her return, ideally, with multiple audiences and varied media.
Golden Key Study Abroad Scholarship
Undergraduate members who are currently enrolled in a study abroad program or who will be enrolled the academic year immediately following the granting of the award are eligible for one of ten $1,000 awards presented each year—three for the October 20 deadline and seven for the April 15th deadline.

John T. Petters Scholarship
In memory of John T. Petters, scholarship funds are available to undergraduate students who are members of a John T. Petters Foundation Partner University and/ or Non-profit organizations OR undergraduates who apply separately as an “Open Scholar”. These students must be pursuing a study abroad program in international business.

Osher Scholars Summer Study Abroad Program
Students may use this award to help pay for a summer study abroad program of their choosing. The length of study program can vary from two weeks to three months. All projects should relate to the students’ academic interests and/ or career goals.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant
There are thirty-eight $1,000 grants awarded each year to help support undergraduate study abroad.
The grant is open to Phi Kappa Phi members as well as non-members in all fields of study. Student must attend an institution with a Phi Kappa Phi chapter, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 and have a minimum of 56 credit hrs and a max of 90. Study abroad program must commence in May and end in June of the following year. Applicants must submit a letter of acceptance into the study abroad program and have at least 2 remaining semesters remaining in the home institution after the completion of the study abroad program.

Rotary International Academic-Year, Multi-Year & Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships
Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide a flat grant of $23,000 or its equivalent for one academic year of study in another country to defray costs associated with round-trip transportation, tuition, fees, room and board expenses, and some educational supplies. These are the most common type of scholarship offered.
Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are for two years of degree-oriented study in another country. A flat grant of $11,500 or its equivalent is provided per year to be applied toward the costs of a degree program.
Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships are for either three or six months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country and provide a flat grant of $10,000 or its equivalent for 3 months and $15,000 or its equivalent for 6 months to defray costs associated with round-trip transportation, language training expenses, and home stay living arrangements. Applications are considered for candidates interested in studying Arabic, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, and Swedish.
*Some Rotary districts may only offer one type of scholarship (or none at all); applicants must check with the local club regarding availability.

SIT Study Abroad – Pell Match Scholarship Program
SIT Study Abroad offers a scholarship program for undergraduate Federal Pell grant recipients. SIT will automatically match a student’s Pell award used for a semester program with SIT, thereby placing high-quality, field-based study abroad programs within greater financial reach of a wider range of undergraduate students. More than 30 SIT programs across the globe are eligible for the Pell match scholarship. II. DIVERSITY IN STUDY ABROAD
AIFS-HACU Scholarship Program for London Intern Students
This new program will provide scholarships of up to 50% of the full program fee to study at Richmond, the American International University in London, England. The student will become part of a special internship program where they will be placed with an international company in their field of interest to gain work experience.
Scholarship winners will study for a summer (12 weeks) or semester (Fall or Spring) at Richmond, The American International University in London. The program consists of intensive study of contemporary British Culture, Internship Seminars and an unpaid internship in a wide range of private companies and public organizations.
Fields of internships include Advertising, Art & Design, Broadcast Film and Production, Finance and Accounting, Legal, IT, Journalism, Marketing, Music, PR. Non-profit NGO & Politics and Government.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
Get funding for traditionally underrepresented students, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in underrepresented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities from a variety of institutions in all 50 states.
Students who apply for and receive the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad are now eligible to receive an additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement from the Gilman Program for a total possible award of up to $8,000. Critical Need Languages include: Arabic (all dialects), Chinese (all dialects), Turkic (Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgz, Turkish, Turkmen, Uzbek), Persian (Farsi, Dari, Kurdish, Pashto, Tajiki), Indic (Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, Sinhala, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Sindhi), Korean, and Russian.

Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Laureate International Scholarship Program
As, one of the largest international scholarship programs dedicated to encouraging US Hispanic students to participate in study abroad programs, the program offers study abroad tuition scholarships that can be applied to more than 17 campus locations within the Laureate International University network. Schools are located in many different countries in Europe and Latin America, including: Spain, France, Switzerland, Cyprus, Brazil, Costa Rica, Honduras, Chile, Panama, Peru, Ecuador and Mexico.
Depending on the study abroad location, coursework takes place in English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese. Together, Laureate schools offer a wide range of courses in numerous academic areas.
HACU member institutions in the U.S., including Puerto Rico, have exclusive access to the scholarship program.

Institute for International Public Policy Fellowship (IIPP)
Sponsored and Administered by the United Negro College Fund, the IIPP Fellowship program provides students with specially designed education and training experiences critical to entry and advancement in international affairs careers. Students are recruited from across the nation and apply as sophomores to participate in a multi-year sequence of summer policy institutes, study abroad, intensive language training, internships, and graduate study, complemented by career development services along the way.
Students must be enrolled full-time at a four-year institution, and be a U.S. citizen, or permanent resident. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2, based on a 4.0 scale, have a strong interest in international affairs, and be an underrepresented minority.
Joseph A. Towles African Study Abroad Scholarship
This scholarship is for college sophomores, juniors, and seniors at a UNCF institute (see if your school if a UNCF institute at http://www.uncf.org/scholarships/uncf_schools.asp) Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and are eligible for up to $10,000 for study at an African university. The award is meant to enable “black Americans, conscious of their African descent, to have the opportunity to experience the richness of African cultures”.
Robert B. Bailey Scholarship
These awards are named in honor of Robert B. Bailey III, former member of CIEE’s Board of Directors and Professor of Sociology and Director of Study Abroad at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, in order to aid students who have traditionally been underrepresented in study abroad, especially ethnic minority students. Applicants are asked to specify the group to which they belong and which they believe to be underrepresented in study abroad. Applicants must participate in a CIEE study abroad program.
Awards may vary but are usually made in the amount of $500 to be applied toward the applicant’s CIEE program fee.
III. NONTRADITIONAL COUNTRIES
General
NSEP David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships
Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide funding for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study in world regions critical to the future security of our nation and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Middle East. The maximum award amount for undergraduate students is $20,000. Graduate students can receive up to $30,000. In exchange for funding, recipients commit to seek work in the federal government for at least one year in a position with national security responsibilities.

NSEP Language Flagship Fellowship
The Language Flagship offers a limited number of fellowships to qualified American students interested in receiving financial support to participate in one of the Graduate Flagship Programs in Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, and Persian. Applicants must have completed their undergraduate degree, be a U.S. citizen at the time of application, have proficiency in the corresponding foreign language, and cannot be employed by the U.S. Government. Award recipients must maintain enrollment at Master's degree granting Flagship Program for the duration of the Flagship Fellowship funding period.

Simpson Egyptology Scholarship
Study Egyptology at the American University in Cairo (AUC) for fall only and spring only semesters or for full academic year programs. Scholarships provide an award of $2,500 per semester (not to exceed two consecutive semesters). Outstanding students interested in Egyptology from all nationalities, who are juniors or seniors at a college or university outside of Egypt at the time they apply are eligible.
West African Research Association (WARA) Fellowhips
WARA offers Pre-Doctoral Fellowships, Post-Doctoral Fellowships and Graduate Student Summer Internships for research in West Africa.
Asia
American Institute of Bangladesh Studies Fellowships
Junior fellowships, Senior fellowships and Pre-Dissertation fellowships available for a minimum of four months and a maximum of ten to twelve months.
Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers 100 scholarships annually to American undergraduate students participating in study abroad programs in Japan. Awards are intended to assist students with the travel and living expenses for students majoring in any field. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite. Recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester-long programs) or $4,000 (for students on academic year programs). Summer study is not eligible.
Henry Luce Foundation: Luce Scholars Program
Stipends and internships for eighteen young Americans to live and work in Asia are available each year. Candidates must be American citizens who have received at least a bachelor’s degree and are no more than 29 years old on September 1 of the year they enter the program. Candidates must be nominated by one of the eligible sixty-seven colleges and universities.
Freeman Asia
The Freeman-Asia scholarship provides American students to study abroad in one of the 15 Asian countries on semester or summer programs (at least eight weeks in length). Scholarships are first offered to student with no prior experience in the country where they plan to study.
Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship
Awards are available for research students, teacher training students, undergraduate students, Japanese studies students, young public administrators, college of technology students and special training students. Students from outside of Japan are recruited by embassy recommendation or university recommendation.
Morgan Stanley Scholarships for Study in Japan
Junior and senior undergraduates interested in economics and international finance who have been accepted for study in Japan are eligible for awards of $7,500 (for 2007-8).

Rainforest Alliance Kleinhans Fellowship
This fellowship supports research to better understand and improve the impacts of non-timber forest product (NTFP) harvest and marketing on rural livelihoods and tropical forest ecosystems. A successful application will outline the need for research, its potential applications and its likely impact on local communities and forest ecosystems in Latin America. Applications for projects conducted in the Petén region of Guatemala or Southern Mexico are especially encouraged.
