Question
What if my child is multi-racial? Do you think this will affect his/her experience abroad?

Rae RaeSenior Year StudentLoyola Marymount UniversityI think it depends on where your child travels. In London I noticed that interracial dating was quite common, much more so than in the U.S. actually, at least in the situations I observed. Many people were multi-racial, or had immigrant parents, and most people were tolerant and accepting of this. Other places might not be so welcoming. And honestly it might depend on your ethnic/racial makeup as well at the location. You should research your country’s history and maybe use your child’s study abroad office as a resource as well, but don’t make any assumptions without first obtaining information

Some places are more accustomed to mixed race people then others. If someone is mixed race and studies in a place that is not used to seeing mixed race people then perhaps the student would have to field more questions regarding their race and ethnicity, but generally it is not a problem.
