    It made a big difference. Traditionally, it is the women who are to be looked after and taken care of constantly. The women are supposed to be more timid and dependent, so I was very worried about the courage Nancy had to decide that she would be studying abroad. Nancy is the only girl, but she also has two older brothers and the fact that neither of them did something to this extent raised my level of anxiety.

    No, gender did not make a difference. There are always concerns you’ll have as a parent no matter what gender your child is when they are studying abroad. The gender of my child did not make me worry less or more, I still had concerns anyway.
